Before the creation of the Internal Improvement Fund and the Board o f Public Works in 1816, public works were funded with appropriations from the General Assembly. This is an artificial collection of records assembled from several sources, including governor's office letters received, Gereral Assembly records, and the office of the auditor of public accounts. Because most of the records appear to have been removed from the auditor's office, the collection has been shelved with the auditor's records pending further study.
